The Ripple Effect

The Ripple Effect

As I was walking around downtown recently, I noticed another painted storefront window. It made me smile.

The first painted window I remember seeing was at Bakery Lane. When owner Sam was trying to decide what to do with her large front window, she reached out on social media for ideas. An artist responded and said she’d love to paint it. What I admire most is that Sam trusted her completely and simply said – Do whatever you think would look good.

The result was incredible.

People commented on it constantly. It caught attention, sparked conversations, and added something special to the street.

A few weeks ago, I noticed another painted window at a salon in the mall. Then, while walking past our Brick & Tile Building, I saw that The Creamery had painted windows too. All three were created by the same artist. And it’s also very special because this artist and all three business are local – just like LEE REALTY!

When I mentioned it to Sam, she told me something interesting: the artist had never really done anything like this before. But because the Bakery Lane window turned out so beautifully, other business owners reached out and wanted something similar.

That’s the thing about positive change. It often starts with one person willing to try something new.

One business owner took a chance. One artist shared her creativity. One window became two, then three. And suddenly, a simple idea created a ripple effect that made our downtown a little brighter.

People often say they want more things happening downtown. The truth is, those things don’t just appear. They happen because someone invests their time, energy, creativity, and often their own money to make something better.

The opposite is true, too. Neglect can create a ripple effect just as easily. But thankfully, I see far more examples of people stepping up, taking risks, and investing in our community.

Whether it’s a painted window, a renovated building, a new business, a community event, or a simple act of beautification, those efforts matter. They inspire others. They create momentum.

And I see that ripple effect happening all over Mason City.

To everyone who is investing your time, energy, creativity, and resources into making our town better: THANK YOU. It is noticed. It is appreciated. And it brings more joy to this community than you may ever realize.
