A New Door Opens: Our Next Chapter at Lee Realty

If you’ve spent any time in downtown Mason City, you’ve probably noticed a beautiful old building that seems to hold a story in every brick. It’s hard to miss the strong pillars that greet you at the top of the stairs.

Well… my family and I recently bought it.

The building was originally constructed in 1908 as Mason City’s Post Office. While it may not have the official historic designation, it absolutely holds a special place in the history, and heart, of our town. In fact, it has always been my favorite building in River City. It’s story is vast and interesting, and we plan to share it along the way. In fact, we are still finding out more and more about it every day. And it’s story deserves to be told.

So to say I’m still a little in awe that my family and I now own it would be an understatement.

This building is going to be the setting for a new chapter for us AND for Lee Realty. I’ll be sharing much more about the building itself in future posts: its history, the changes we’re making, and the surprises we’ve already discovered along the way.

But first, let me introduce myself.

Hi, I’m Abigail Lee. I was born and raised right here in River City, and I am a very proud Iowan (always mighty proud to say it). I truly love this town: its people, its history, and the sense of community you find here. My husband and I made the decision years ago to continue to build our life and raise our family in North Iowa. Now, after spreading their wings a bit, our kids are finding their way back home too.

I guess you could say Mason City is in our blood.

That’s why the tagline for Lee Realty “Locally Grown; Locally Owned” is more than just a phrase – it’s the truth. It’s how we do business.

I became a licensed real estate agent in the spring of 2006 while pregnant with my youngest child, and over the past 20 years I’ve had the privilege of assisting people buy and sell properties throughout North Iowa. Helping people find their place in this community has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life.

I chose to move back here and I choose to stay here. You might say Mason City and I are in a long-term relationship.

This blog will be a place where I share more about this building adventure, real estate insights, life in North Iowa, and the things that make our community such a special place to call home.
