Clear Lake is For Sale
Lee Realty currently has a few homes for sale in both Clear Lake and Ventura. Looking at today’s prices always reminds me of a conversation I had a few years ago when the first home in our area was listed for over a million dollars. At the time, I was shocked.
Today, you’d be hard-pressed to find lakefront property on Clear Lake for less than a million dollars, and several homes have sold for well over two million. While those numbers may seem surprising for North Iowa, it really comes down to supply and demand.
Unlike Minnesota, the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” Iowa simply doesn’t have an abundance of lakefront property. Outside of places like Clear Lake, Ventura, Okoboji, and only a handful of lakes elsewhere in the state, waterfront opportunities are limited. When something is scarce and highly desirable, prices naturally rise.
And desirable is exactly what Clear Lake is.
I feel incredibly fortunate that Mason City is only minutes away from both Clear Lake and Ventura. Every time I drive over there, I immediately feel like I’m on vacation. The pace slows down. The stress fades away. There is an almost island-like atmosphere that makes it feel different from everyday life.
Yes, homes in Clear Lake tend to cost more. In fact, I often tell buyers that even if a home is several blocks from the water, a similar home in Mason City would likely sell for less. Being close to the lake simply adds value.
Of course, not every property is a multi-million-dollar lakefront estate. One of the things I love about Clear Lake is the variety of housing options available. There are condos, twin homes, cottages, year-round residences, and luxury waterfront properties. There truly is something for a wide range of budgets and lifestyles.
Many families have owned their homes there for generations, passing them down from parents to children and grandchildren. That says something about the community. People don’t just buy a house in Clear Lake – they create memories there.
There’s something special about places like the Outing Club and the lakefront neighborhoods. They feel like a throwback to a time when life moved a little slower, neighbors knew each other, and families spent more time together. I think the lake naturally encourages that. It invites people to sit a little longer, stay outside a little later, and appreciate the view.
And honestly, I wish I had bought Clear Lake property years ago! That would have been quite a good investment!
