They Don’t Make Them Like They Used To
There’s something people don’t always realize about working with a Realtor… we’re not limited to just one town/area.
While my brokerage is based locally in Mason City, I’m licensed to show and list properties anywhere in the state of Iowa. That means whether you’re looking in Clear Lake, Ventura, Northwood, Rockwell, or beyond, I can help you every step of the way. Real estate doesn’t stop at our city limits, and neither do I.
In fact, that flexibility is one of my favorite parts of the job.
Currently, I have a listing out at Beeds Lake, just north of Hampton, Iowa. I was there this weekend for a several showings, and in between appointments, I decided to take a short drive into Hampton.
And wow – I’m so glad I did.
You can spot the Franklin County Courthouse from a distance as you come into town, and it is absolutely stunning. Truly one of those buildings that makes you slow down and take a second look. The clock tower, the intricate detailing, the statues at the very top, it all feels so intentional and timeless. The clock even gave me a little Back to the Future vibe, which made it that much more fun.
I know I say this often (especially about our own Lee Realty building), but they just don’t make them like they used to.
There’s something about these historic structures that tells a story. It feels like they have personality, strength, and character. Today’s government buildings may be more practical and cost-efficient (and I understand the importance of that) but they often lack the detail, awe, and craftsmanship you see in these older designs. It makes me appreciate them even more when I come across one that’s been so beautifully preserved.
And it’s not just the buildings, it’s the towns themselves.
Every small town in Iowa has its own personality, and Hampton is no exception. I spent a little time walking around, popping into a few local shops, and I left genuinely impressed. It’s the kind of place that’s worth a stop, whether you’re house hunting, looking for a day trip, or just passing through.
It didn’t hurt that it was one of those rare warm March days in Iowa – sun shining, no jacket needed, and just enough warmth to remind you that spring is on its way.
Moments like that are a good reminder of why I love what I do. Real estate gives me the opportunity to explore these communities, appreciate what makes each one unique, and help others find their place – wherever that may be across our great state of Iowa.
